Alli Coate

'I like creating a world where everything is soft and bright, and there is always some good to be found. It's not that i'm pretending thats theres nothing bad in the world, but when theres sadness or pain, i would try to show it in a way that the viewer feels hope'.......Alli Coate, Illustration play 2

The reasons why i chose this artist was manily because i love the way she works and the particular style she has.
I love the way that she uses fabric and illustration combined into one collage piece, and then scanning images into a computer and then refining the small pencil lines into more bolder lines so they stand out more. The colours are warm and bright, which gives a nice feel to her work. I think the use of pattern and text on her work is very interesting. This artist doesnt actualy relate to my current project 'T is for Together' But i like the way she works and thought it would be a good idea to show an artist who works in a similar way that i will possibly approach my ideas for this project.

PaperMonster

During the second week of the observational project, we began looking at stencils, and text, combining both, and using layers and backgrounds and various other different surfaces. I thought it would be a good idea if maybe i looked into some stecil artists, or some artists that have used stencils in their previous work. I came across the artists 'PaperMonster' and his work came across to me as very bold and striking, and this is what i love most about stencil art, the colours and the vibrant tone to the piece.

After re drawing my shoes in wire, i thought it best be if i drew a face also, i found that drawing a face is alot harder than shaping obejcts in wire. They look odd, and the idea that they are all distorted and out of proportion is nice. Photocopying it and then changing the settings, and adjusting the colour to get different variations.

Observational drawing, week 2

Using wire to re draw images from our sketchbooks during the first week of the observational project and re drawing it in wire, i have to admit, i enjoyed this greatly, and would love to create more images using wire.

Observational drawing, week 1

This was done on the train to leeds, and i found it quite difficult to to keep a good line, because the train was moving constantly and then shaking with the wind, but that gave a really nice touch to the lines,.

Observational drawing, week 1

I really enjoyed the first week of the observational project, going around town and college and just drawing people doing their every day things, I started off with the theme of old age pensioners, but kind of drifted from that and began drawings people and objects that reall interested me. I think i enjoyed this more than sticking to a set theme. I had a thing for drawing shoes and feet, especialy if that persons shoes were interesting in form and colour.
