Magazine review: Imagine Fx
Imagine Fx is a Fantasy and sci fi digital art Magazine that explores a wide range of techniques and processes that explore the areas in digital painting, plus areas that include the before hand sketches of any digitally painted piece.
I think the main reasons why I like Imagine Fx is not because of the idea that’s it’s a digital art magazine, but because of the interesting images and how the magazine itself is presented. The pages are colourful and well displayed and each page is guaranteed your attention.
The magazine is published monthly, and usually costs around £6 for one standard issue, I subscribed to this magazine, and I got 15 issues for £50 and you get the version of the magazine that doesn’t have the text or the advertisements on the cover. I think the audience would probably be older adults onwards and even professional artists illustrators, because there are quite a few graphic images and explicit content inside.
Looking through the whole of the magazines, there are many reviews towards the end, where artists or game designers give reviews on new games that have been released. These appear in every issue in the same part of the magazine so that’s quite handy knowing exactly what page its on, so you can jump straight into it. There are plenty of advertisements involving cameras and graphics tablets, games, games consoles, artists equipment.
I Believe that this magazine is a very successful one, they have a website and the website it well published and well up to date. The magazine involves competitions and new artists that want to be known and it gives good opportunities for new artists to actually get their work out there. There are pages that give you tips, artists tips and I think this is a nice little touch to the magazine because it shows how willing other artists are to take part in such a thing, so the pages on that are nice to read and its nice to be able to learn a little something. I also love that the magazine also contains tutorials on how to improve your digital painting, this isn’t something that im interested in, but say for instance I wanted to learn how to do something in digital painting this would come in handy.
The Magazine contains so many different styles, and its nice to see how other artists work and how many other ways there are in creating digital imagery in a different process.

Armadillio.
I was looking into some ideas of quick comic book sketches and stroy ideas, and i found these really quick simple pieces of a comic book/strip about some armadillo's and i thought they fit nicely into my theme of using an armaillo and other animals and creatures with a shell or natural armour.

I Don't really know where my mum had gotten it from, but she did say it was from a hand crafted toy shop, she's just unsure where abouts it was. I love this money box and i still fill it with spare 1p's and 2'ps and my mum still changes them at the end of the month, and its something i think i will continue carrying on until i'm much older. I love the simplicity of the design, and the bright colours are really wonderful. Its hand painted, and made out of wood, and you can tell its put together by hand because of the glue marks, and the brush strokes from the brush. Its faded alot more now, but you can still see much of the colour, but for instance the bears trousers were a bright ish green, and the lettering on the box was bright red, and thats faded quite a bit as well now. The areas where bits of paint have flaked off or have been scratched off, make it look old, and its nice to have something that you can show others and say 'i've had this scince i was a little girl'
Early Teenage
This Key ring was given to me by an old best friend, who i don't see anymore, and its quite sad that i don't because we had a very good friendship, and she got me this key ring as part of my 13th/14th birthday. It doe's say 'Special Friend' on the little t-shirt but you can't see it very well. I used to take it everywhere because it was always hanging from the zip of one of my bags, and in time doing this made it dirty and a bit tatty.
According to the elephants little lable it says it was made out of Polyester, and was manufactured in China and sold in a gift shop named expressions Gifts. But i think she got this from clintons at the time. Even though we aren't friends anymore i still keep it hanging from my windowsill, because it was part of a good friendship and part of many good memories, and it would be sad to get rid of something like that.
Late Teenage
This was something my sister bought me from River island years ago, and i remember i kept looking at it when i went in but i never bought it, then for christmas she had bought it from me, and i put it on straight away, because i loved it that much, and its still my favourite necklace. I had broke it once, and the chain had snapped, and i was gutted, i couldn't believe that i had broken it after all the time, but, my boyfriend kindly fixed it for me, the chain is still a bit bent, so i don't wear it as much as i would like to wear it. Its quite a heavy piece of jewelry aswel and the deers antlers dig into my collar bone on occasions, and when i've slept in it the odd time its stabbed me in my neck. I don't think its real silver, nor did it say where abouts it was manufactured, but i do think it was somehwere either in the uk, or the usa, i'm not entirely sure. It may be quite interesting to find out where though.
Present
Out of everything this was the most amazing thing ever, it was one of the best days i've had in my life, seeing my favourite band the 'Deftones' I saw them in birmingham on a saturday with one of my best friends, and i took a day off work because this was the last day i would have had chance to see them so i had to do it, and i'm so glad i did, because i never ever thought that i would ever see them in my life. I was sad at the fact we had balcony tickets because thats all that was left, and in the actual arena, we looked down and we saw old couples right at the front, and it amazed me that people that old, were going to be stood at the most hectic part of the arena, and it made me jelous to think that they should have been where we were, and us where they were. It was like a mini adventure for us because we went and found the tour buses to see if any of the band members came out for a split second, but they didnt. However the drummer from one of their openeing bands came out and asked us if the doors behind us were locked. So that was quite an exciting part of the day, although we were unsure who it was until we had googled it on our phones. The moment itself was phenominal, it really was, i don;t think i have ever been so excited in my life. I remember them coming on the stage and i nearly cried because i just didn't think i was ever going to see them live.
I have this ticked pinned up on my wall along with loads of other bits of things such as photographs from the event, and on ocasions its nice to just look up and feel and know that i have seen them live, and everytime they come on tell i'm like 'IVE SEEN THEM IN REAL LIFE!'

Leeds Armouries.
Looking back at some photos from the leeds armouries, focussing on the animal skulls, especialy with the horns and the antlers. I think these could help me get more ideas on possible outcomes.
Protection.
I found that i wanted to focus on animals in protection, which ranged from animals protecting their young, animals with a natural armour such as armadillo's and tutles and some insects and other sea creatures that have shells. Then looking at the skulls and body forms of animals.
I began drawing from an animal skull, which would give me an idea for a few characters to create some form of a comic strip, story board idea/theme.
*)Using photocopies of the skull and then trying to use it in some way to create a character.

Project: Protection (Leeds Armouries)
Going on a trip to the leeds armouries to start of the creative senses flowing. I found that lots of the armour there was really inspiring, especialy the native armour and the chinese and japanese armour and the kind of material it was made of and the shapes. Also how the horses wore dragon masks and other various bits of decorative piece of armour.

Asbestos
I think what i find the most interesting in Asbestos's work is the fact he uses found objects and bits of old paper and photographs to create his main images. Folding and tearing the paper where needed.
